Emergency services were called to Hawks Nest shortly after midday on Saturday, October 5, and found a 37-year-old man had been allegedly attacked in his garage.
The man sustained four knife wounds to his left arm and his left leg and was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he was expected to undergo surgery.
Police say a 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with affray, armed with intent, and wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Sunday, October 6.
Police say a kitchen knife has been seized and taken for forensic examination.
