Members of Parliament were able to meet some of our threatened species and learn more about the work of Aussie Ark.

"An important part of the work we do at Aussie Ark is educating the public about our animals," Aussie Ark operations manager Scott Ryan said.

"Sometimes our smaller wildlife like quolls and potoroos can get forgotten about, so days like today are a wonderful opportunity to show everyone just how amazing our native wildlife is."

Australia has the highest mammal extinction rate in the world, with Aussie Ark working to ensure a long-term future for our wildlife.

"The Tasmanian tiger, and all of our animals that have gone extinct, are a reminder to us that we need to do better to ensure our wildlife has a long-term future," Mr Ryan said.

National Threatened Species Day is held on September 7 every year, the same day the last Tasmanian tiger died in 1936.

"It was fantastic to be joined by the team at Aussie Ark to mark Threatened Species Day. Conservation is everybody's business and I am delighted that organisations like Aussie Ark are playing a role in protecting and recovering our species most at risk," Minister for the Environment The Hon Sussan Ley MP said.

As a not for profit organisation, Aussie Ark raises the necessary funds to continue its ambitious vision. Investment allows for the construction of captive facilities and predator proof fencing on semi-wild parcels of land.

Aussie Ark is a registered environmental organisation and charitable institution under the Australian Charity and Not-for-Profit Commission. Aussie Ark has deductible gift recipient status (DGR status) and is registered for GST purposes.
