MidCoast Council Libraries, together with the waste education team and Sweet Pea & Mumma, have come together to host a clothes swap party and clothes repair and re-wear workshop at Forster library on Saturday September 28 from 2-4pm.
It's the perfect place to give your unwanted items of clothing a new lease on life in someone else's wardrobe.
With a focus on re-using, recycling and minimising the amount of waste generated across the Mid Coast, gather up to five pieces from your wardrobe that you're no longer wearing and in return you'll earn up to five swap tokens to exchange for something a little different - it's a win win for your wallet and the environment.
These days we need to be more environmentally conscious and that can extend to the way we shop and the way we dispose of unwanted clothing.
- Chris Jones
"Clothes swap parties are a really fantastic idea and help to not only reduce waste but it's a great opportunity to swap out something of yours for great pre-loved pieces from someone else," MidCoast Council Libraries manager, Chris Jones said.
"These days we need to be more environmentally conscious and that can extend to the way we shop and the way we dispose of unwanted clothing."
Participants will also have the opportunity to attend workshops on how to mend and re-wear previously unwanted clothing.
"If you've got socks that need darning, a favourite item that you don't wear anymore because it's stained, or something that's become a silverfish snack, take it along and you can learn how to easily repair or alter so you can start wearing it again," Chris said.
This workshop will be presented by MidCoast Council's waste education team and Sweet Pea & Mumma.
If you're going to swap some of your unwanted items, these pieces must be dropped off to Forster library during opening hours between Wednesday, September 25 and Friday, September 27.
To qualify for swap tokens items must be in as-new or gently used condition without stains or faults.
Bookings, which are essential and tickets cost just $8 per person, can be made by visiting the MidCoast Libraries events page HERE.
Please RSVP by Tuesday, September 24 to assist with catering and organisation.
