The site will be redeveloped into a covered community recycling centre (CRC) and waste transfer station complete with an office, tip shop and improved parking.
Work is being undertaken by MidCoast Council through funding from a State government landfill consolidation and environmental improvements grant, part of the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.
The facility will be designed to enhance the overall appearance of the site, provide a safe, user-friendly facility to better serve the Stroud community and promote the importance of diverting, recovering and recycling waste material.

"Waste management is a high priority for us and this funding will have a dual outcome for the community as it will not only increase diversion rates but it will help us protect the natural environment," MidCoast Council liveable communities director, Paul De Szell said.
"The new Stroud CRC will focus on recyclables and community education, with general waste to be diverted to one of our other landfills that is better equipped to manage waste to EPA standards," he said.
The redeveloped facility will form part of the MidCoast Council waste network of CRC and waste transfer stations including the award-winning Tuncurry facility.
A detailed design will be created before a tender process takes place.
