With all the current media attention on the level of New-Start Allowance and Barnaby's tough time on $200 grand a year, I thought a good look at Lyne numbers might shed some light on how effective the government's new mantra might be.

I mean 'a job is the best form of welfare' is catchy and, if you don't think about the English too much, might seem to make some sense.
But sadly the numbers bother me.
At the 2016 census the numbers (rounded down) for the seat of LYNE, were:
- Unemployed 4500 people
- Part employed 36,000
If we move forward to 2019, the numbers have barely moved. Okay unemployed down by 50 people.
Meanwhile the availability of jobs at any given month seems around 500-600, month by month. Apologies if I missed your job add.
So, when I went to school 4500 into 600 didn't look too healthy, and I'm not even game to do the sums for the 36,000 looking for an extra gig.
When I write to our local member, about things that affect our community, I get tired of the diatribe I receive in response, but seriously if the government expects us to believe this new mantra then I think they all need an upgrade to their abacus.
