The orchestra will perform We Are August Dreaming this Sunday, August 4 from 2pm at the Tuncurry Memorial Hall.
"We Are August Dreaming; why the title," Beryl Henderson asked.
"Well it is August and we are covering the spectrum of dreaming," she said.
"August Dreaming is very much the creation of our conductor, Iain Pole."
An inaugural member of the orchestra, Iain joined the group 20 years ago as an oboist, before becoming the conductor.
"Our Quaver Scholarship Winners -past and present- are inspired by his creativity, his enthusiasm and his ongoing career, not only behind the podium but in writing, teaching and performing music."
So what's on the program and what does Iain think about these pieces?
August Dreaming is very much the creation of our conductor, Iain Pole.
- Beryl Henderson
To quote Peter Sculthorpe on Earth Cry: "We need to attune ourselves to this continent, to listen to the cry of the earth, as the Aborigines have done for many thousands of years," Iain said.
Iain described this piece as being an abridged version, in two linked sections.
"The first is ritualistic; with its melody and accompaniment suggesting Aboriginal chant and the landscape itself.
"The second, in its board melodiousness, brings the material of the first section to its consummation."
Felix Mendelssohn twice wrote music for William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream, first in 1826 and then incidental music in 1842 (including Wedding March, that piece which has been played at so many weddings which we have all attended), he said.
"In December 1924 the play was presented in London at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, with Mendelssohn's full score, but with appropriate additions from Mendelssohn's works selected by Herman Finck - hence A Midsummer Night's Dream - Fantasia."
Iain said Sinfonia would play dainty, spirited, and as delightful as Titania and her elvish Court.
"Of course we will be presenting much more, but you'll have to come along to hear for yourselves," Beryl said.
If you can't make Tuncurry, then Sinfonia will be in Laurieton on August 10, Gloucester, August 11 and Taree on August 25.
