It is one college, on three campuses and offers unlimited opportunities
The College was formed in 2003 when Forster High School became too small for the growing numbers of high school students in the area.
A new site was developed after community consultation at Tuncurry where two campuses, one for students from Years 7-10 and the other for students in Years 11-12, were built.
The Forster Campus now caters for students in Years 7-10.
The three campuses together are responsible for the education of 1,800 local students, and since its formation, it has always maintained a great track record.
GLC ensures that students have access to the widest possible range of subjects and opportunities.
The breadth of courses offered for HSC and electives in 7-10 campuses far exceeds what can be offered at an average High School.
The resources that come with this college are incredible. It is a great asset to the community
- Graeme Jennings, College Principal
There are a variety of educational pathways and post-college opportunities supported by specialist teachers; whether it be academic, vocational, performing arts or cultural.
Another benefit is the increased student leadership opportunities across the college as each campus has student leadership teams.
Staff also have the opportunity to teach across the three campuses enhancing their own professional development and leadership.
Four Principals all work together and share their wealth of knowledge.
There are also three Heads of each KLA, offering triple the expertise.
Outstanding facilities include trade training centres, a lecture theatre, industrial hospitality kitchens, a dance studio and TAFE on site.
Tracey Burling enrolled her child into the College with some initial trepidation.
"As it turns out, the students were inclusive, the teachers were responsive and the overall experience has been one for which I will be forever grateful.
"The teachers would respond to student requests for assistance seven days per week.
"Most don't appear to have an "off switch".
"They were simply outstanding. I cannot speak highly enough of the Great Lakes College."
