Hosting the second-placed Port Saints at home at Boronia Park, the Wallis Lake first grade team put on a strong performance to take a comfortable 3-0 victory.
It was the first time the team had their full compliment of players this season and Great Lakes United Football Club secretary Kevin Stephens said it was evident in the way they played.
In particular, he highlighted centre-forward Roan Whiteman as a player who really hit his straps, leading the team around the park on his way to scoring two of their three goals.
After round 13, Wallis Lake now sits in third position, one point behind the Saints.
The Wallis Lake reserve grade team, who lead the competition, defeated the third-placed Port Saints 3-1.
They have won their last 5 games on the trot and are three points clear of the second-placed Port United.
Mr Stephens said it was a great day overall for Great Lakes United FC, with the club holding their inaugural Old Boys' Day, which saw a host of ex-players attend and a full lineup of matches unfold, including the mini-roos and junior competitive squads.
Meanwhile, up at Port Macquarie, the Tuncurry Forster FC first grade team went down in a close match to premier league front-runners Port United.
Coach Scott Fletcher said his boys performed well on a heavy field in the first half, but a number of mistakes in the second half was enough to make the difference as they conceded a goal and were defeated 1-0.
"We rely on a drier, quicker surface to play the way we play," he said,
"It was a dog fight."
David Muddle was awarded the players' player by his team mates, while Troy Chipperfield and Dan Chapman also put in strong performances.
The team now sits at second last on the ladder but is an outside chance of making the semis if they win their remaining games and those ahead of them falter.
Tuncurry Forster reserve grade also went down in their clash against Port United, losing 3-0.
Wallis Lake FC will meet Tuncurry Forster FC in the local derby at Boronia Park on Saturday, July 27.
