NSW SES Forster/Pacific Palms unit commander, Greg Dodd, and NSW SES Mid North Coast community capability officer, Steve Lawrence, were guests at the Lions club's April dinner meeting and provided an overview of the organisation as a whole, as well as the work completed by the local unit in creating a community action team in the Forster Keys area.
Among the information they shared was the area covered by the Forster/Pacific Palms unit, as well as the risks associated with storms, floods and tsunamis in the Great Lakes region.
In 2018, the unit responded to 296 calls for help which included making safe a number of properties that were damaged by storms in March and December.

The Lions club offered their marquee, barbecues and catering service for the SES to use if they were ever out in the field cleaning up after a natural disaster event.
A number of Lions club members also expressed their interest in becoming SES volunteers, with Mr Lawrence welcoming their enthusiasm and advising there were a number of areas where they could be of service, from field work to office duties and beyond.
The Lions club extended their appreciation to Steve and Greg for giving up their time to attend the meeting.
