Some wonderful vehicles of that era have just not accelerated in value.
Mercedes Benz sedans being a good example.
But a fellow German has.
The ignominious VW Kombi is a big winner in the money game.
The VW Kombi's official designation was the Volkswagen Type 2.
It was a forward control panel van introduced in 1950 by Volkswagen as its second car model following and initially deriving from Volkswagen's first model, the Type 1 (Beetle).
It was given the factory designation Type 2.
The first generation of the Volkswagen Type 2 with the split windshield model informally called the 'splitscreen' was produced from March 8, 1950 through to the end of the 1967 model year.
From 1950 to 1956, like the Beetle, the first Kombi used the 1100 Volkswagen air-cooled engine, an 1131 cc (69.0 cu in), developing 18 kW (24 bhp).
It was an air-cooled flat-four-cylinder 'boxer' engine mounted in the rear.
This was upgraded to the 1200 motor - an 1192 cc (72.7 cu in) with 22 kW(30 bhp) in 1953.

In the 60s you could have picked up a new Kombi for about $2500.
Today top examples can bring $100,000-plus.
Even wrecks can attract $10,000 or more.
One ad appearing recently saw a microbus version selling at just under $270,000.
