The event is set to return to the area after being held in Orange for the past three years.
Triathlon NSW chief executive officer (CEO) Adam Wicks said he was excited to bring the event back to the Mid North Coast.
"The sport of triathlon in the Mid North Coast is growing each year," he said.
"Forster has a pleasant climate year round and is a wonderful town to holiday in and bring the entire family."
Mr Wicks said the location of the town was also a big draw, with Forster no more than a few hours drive from clubs in both Sydney and the Hunter, as well those based further north.
In terms of competition, he said the format of the event is unique compared to most triathlons.
"In what is mostly an individual sport, it's a rare opportunity to truly represent your club," he said.
"We don't award individual awards, instead we focus on the clubs and which club has earned the most points to be the winner."

Forster Tri Club president Dave Fitzhardinge said the event will be of benefit not only to local triathletes, but to the whole area.
"Having a meaningful competition in your own backyard is fantastic," he said.
"It's a massive injection to local businesses."
Mr Fitzhardinge said the Forster Tri Club had a good track record in the Club Championships, having won the division three category of the competition in 2015 and 2016, before it was moved to Orange.
No dates have been pencilled in for the competition yet, but Mr Wicks said it will most likely run in either March or May.
He also said the event would run in Forster until at least 2022 if both Triathlon NSW and Mid Coast Council were happy for it to continue.
