Team numbers increased to 159 and has again contributed in a substantial way to raising funds for the running of the Great Lakes United Football club which for the coming winter competition will provide the opportunity for over 330 participants, both male and female, to enjoy the great game of football and the social interaction which it gives.
The town and the Great Lakes area was again showcased to over 3000 visitors including 1760 players.
The town also benefited financially with over $3 million being injected into the local economy.
None of this would have been possible without the support of all the volunteers, including the RFS, Rotary Club of Great lakes, the Pink Ladies and local church group.
We would also like to thank all our sponsors.
The event would also not have been possible without the understanding of the local community where there was an increase in traffic around the Tuncurry area.
Additional parking facilities were required and whilst we intended to again use the Dog Park again this year and for ensuing years, due to a breakdown in communication between the club and parking officials this was not done.
So apologies to Ted Bickford and the people who regularly walk their dogs in this area.
The club is now busily preparing for 2020 where we anticipate an increase in numbers and the benefits which they bring to the area.
As you could imagine, the organisation and the running such an event is a huge and whilst rewarding task, is exhausting.
So if community member has some time to help during the first weekend in March each year, please get in with the club.
