Kindergarten teacher and relieving assistant principal, Penny Holm, felt that the students had settled in well as a group to ‘big school’.
Four classes were assigned for the 2019 kindergarten intake, and Mrs Holm believed that having the students spread across these classes helped provide a settled beginning for them.
A happy and excited bunch, many of the kindergarten kids were keen to share their thoughts about starting school.
Haydn Lacy confidently shared that she was looking forward to using the play equipment and couldn't wait to try it.
Her next statement brought a tear to her mum’s eye.
“My Mum's here at this school and I'm really pleased about that!”
Jax Blacker announced that his favourite thing was playing and that he was really good at cutting things out, before proudly concluding that his dad was a teacher at Forster.
Anamaya Hopkins said that all she really wanted to achieve at school was to learn all about ponies.
"Like from the My Little Pony toys," she explained.
Kaylen Till confided that he was looking forward to learning lots of new things but he was feeling a little bit worried.
Cousins Nikkita and Peta Tweeddale then reminded Kaylen that they’d be checking up on him to make sure he was feeling safe and happy.
Brianna Walker said she wished to catch the school bus just like the 'big kids'.
Mrs Holm explained that having the ‘big kids’ interact with the newcomers made it easier for them to adjust.
“Our use of the older students to be buddies for the younger members of the school has helped,” she said.
The buddies were encouraged to allow their younger charges to be independent and to learn the routines and expectations of students at Forster Public School.
Forster Public School said they wished kindergarten students at every school a safe and happy start and hoped each student achieved their dreams for this new beginning.
