The carnival was held at Gloucester Pool on Wednesday, February 13 and saw Holy Name finish ahead of St Joseph’s Gloucester, Wingham, Taree and Bulahdelah in the overall standings.
Six students from Holy Name were also crowned champions in each of the carnival’s individual divisions, showing the depth of swimming talent that exists at the local school.
St Joseph’s Primary School Gloucester hosted the carnival for the sixth year in a row and a large number of spectators came along to show their support.
Year 11 and 12 students from the Vocational Education Training (VET) Sport Coaching course at St Clare’s High School in Taree also came to keep time for each of the 36 races, with their assistance counting towards the practical requirement for their course.
Qualifiers from the competition will now travel to Newcastle for the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese Primary Swimming Carnival to be held on March 12.
