The mercury topped at 36.7 degrees early this afternoon.
Within half an hour the temperature had risen to 37 degrees (at 2.30pm)
Away from the coast the temperature at 2pm was 36.5 degrees, thankfully four degrees below the predicted top of 40 degrees.
The coastal top was the highest temperature for the year, with a 31.2 degree top on January 19.
Following an overnight low of 19 degrees tomorrow is predicted to be a more comfortable mostly sunny 25 degrees, while further inland the temperature will reach a top of 29 degrees after an overnight low of 20.
A late shower has been forecast for inland areas.
