“I’m absolutely astounded with the number of people that attended Club Taree, it was such a joy to see so many children, young adults and seniors enjoying the Aussie feel for the day,” Cr West said.
He added the sentiments were felt across the entire local government area.
“As one gathers life's experiences you appreciate all that holds our civilisation together.
“To be amongst our patriotic community in Taree and at Forster you could feel and see a love of this country demonstrated in many ways driving across the bridge from Tuncurry into Forster,” Cr West said.
“I saw people enjoying the jewel in the crown Wallis Lake.
“It was obvious on the lake or at the club these were Australians celebrating this great nation and all it stands for.”

In his address to the audience in Taree, Cr West spoke about patriotism.
“I really feel a sense of pride and satisfaction every day of my life for the simple fact that I am an Aussie.
“We must never forget the past and accept that we have a future.
“We are indeed the lucky country,” Cr West said.
The day had special significance for general manager Adrian Panuccio.
“This was my first Australia Day in the Mid Coast and it was great to be part of our community's celebrations,” Mr Panuccio said.
"The ceremonies are a great chance to see how hard our community works and honours those who achieve in various areas.
"It was also fantastic to see so many people out and about across the region celebrating Australia Day in their own way - whether it was on the lakes and beaches or in our parks and playgrounds.”
