The club will send three crews down to compete in the under 19s, open and masters divisions.
Club president Tony Logue said crew members had proved themselves on the water in recent times and were ready to take on some of the State’s heavyweight clubs.
“They’ve been competitive in the last year,” Tony said.
Tony said the under 19s would have their work cut out for them.
“They are doing really well considering they are 16 and 17-year-old boys competing in that division,” Tony said.
Branches to be represented at the championships were Hunter, Mid North Coast, Central Coast, Sydney, Sydney Northern Beaches, Illawarra and Far South Coast.
Tea Gardens Hawks Nest will be part of the Hunter contingent.
Points are paramount throughout the championships, with every race going towards the final score and the chance to be named champions.
The event will finish with the surf boat relay, a true demonstration of each team’s strength across all divisions.
Tea Gardens Hawks Nest made history at the back end of 2018.
The open team, made up of Greg Ross, Chris Sando, Mitchell Baker, James Fitzpatrick and Callan Sheldon, took out the men’s reserve grade title at the World Championships in Adelaide in November.
“They’d only been together as a team for one year,” Tony said.
The surf club has about 60 active members, with the doors always open for new people to join.
