Forster has claimed fifth spot in hotel reservation site, Wotif’s annual Aussie Town of the Year awards.
Looking beyond traditional domestic hotspots and backed by Wotif’s 18-year Australian heritage, the awards aim to support local communities by encouraging Aussies to discover more of their own backyard and at the same time recognise 10 deserving locations across the country.
Described as “arguably one of the best whale watching destinations in Australia, Forster stands as an Aussie underdog and best kept secret when it comes to untouched beaches.”
Forster came in at number five behind Port Fairy in Victoria (1), Albany, WA (2), Port Augusta, SA, (3) and Bendigo (VIC).
Speaking on behalf of MidCoast Council, mayor David West said he was thrilled to have Forster on the list for 2019.
“It’s certainly not lost on locals, how fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful destination,” Cr West said.
“I’m delighted to see Forster recognised for its great natural beauty, affordability, culture and lifestyle.”
Cr West said that traveller demand for Forster had increased over the last 12 months, which was testament to the fantastic tourism facilities and service providers throughout Forster and the MidCoast Council region.
“We’re so proud of our area and excited that everything we love about this place is being acknowledged and will entice others to come and see for themselves, why Forster truly is one of the best places in Australia to visit.”
Rounding out the top 10 were Cowra, Palm Cove (Qld), Scamander (Tas), Dubbo and Warwick (Qld).
Now in its second year, the Wotif Aussie Town of the Year awards are based on Wotif pricing and demand data, and for the first time, traveller reviews, unearthing 2019’s up-and-coming destinations.
