Playing in searing heat at Rec 3, United won the toss and elected to bat.
United opener Matt Kennewell set the trend for the side by scoring 61 runs. This total included nine fours.
Aaron Pin and Murray McCartney chipped in before Josh Ferris smashed 57 runs, including five fours and four sixes. The side finished 7/238.
Craig Lewis was the pick of the Great Lakes bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/39.
Great Lakes struggled early in their reply, at one stage reduced to 5/31.
Micheal Simpson and James McBride built the innings back up, with scores of 30 and 47 respectively.
The side was later dismissed for 190, with three of United’s bowlers picking up a three-fa.
Kennewell said it was a timely result for United.
“Great Lakes and Wingham are the two top teams and we needed a win to stay with them,’’ he explained.
United now moves to third.
Great Lakes hold down second.
Great Lakes has the bye next week and will return to action in round 14 against Taree West at Tuncurry Oval on January 19.
