Police want your help after the remains of a man were found in bushland near Taree last week.
Emergency services were called to a small fire in the Yarratt State Forest, north of Taree, about 6am on December 27, police said.
As the crews put out the small fire, they found an adult male body.
Police believe the man is likely to have died at another location and his body dumped in the forest on late Wednesday or the early hours of Thursday.
Authorities are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to determine how he died.
The man is yet to be formally identified but police believe he is in his 40s.
Police are hoping motorists who may have been travelling in the area at the time may have dash-cam footage to share.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Manning-Great Lakes Police District are investigating the man’s death under Strike Force Gretna.
Anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Gretna detectives is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
