This is a fairly familiar story of the underdog who has no self belief but is encouraged by those around her. She aspires to management level at a big box store but is put off by the fact other managers have college degrees, and by another worker up for the management job (Dan Bucatinsky of Scandal fame) telling her she is too old to get any further in her career.
She is given a leg up by a completely bogus Facebook profile, set up by a friend, which lands her a top job on Madison Avenue, New York. Then she has to live up to the hype by perpetuating the lie. Maya transforms from a frumpy Bronx housewife to a swan in designer clothes. Meanwhile her best friend (Leah Remini) and her love interest (Milo Ventigmiglia of This Is Us fame) remind her where she comes from.
