A solid four foot east swell greeted the competitors, and with the rain came a nice offshore wind that groomed the swell.
As the tide dropped it was a bit hit and miss for the competitors, with some heats having plenty of waves while the ocean would go quiet for others.
Some of the biggest sets of the day rolled in for the grommets final, and Sam Tattersall had a good swim back to shore after breaking his arm rope. Thanks to Chad Pisani for helping him back to land.
Young Shay Kennedy impressed everyone, paddling out in the heavy conditions on her own and surfing her way to first palace in the groms final.
In the juniors it was Nathan Price who took the win with some clean surfing, ahead of his mate Jack Grainger.
Millie Chalker did well to make the final with the boys, placing forth after up and coming ripper Tristan Sheedy snatched third.
Renowned Australian bodyboarder Emma Roby made the trip up the coast, taking first in the women's event ahead of Millie Chalker.
With a heat total of 17 out of a possible 20, Shane Chalker took the win in the masters final, while Will Kennedy made his return to competition to take second place.
It was a man on man final for the drop knee riders with local DK legend Tom “Donz” Donnelly getting the win ahead of Adam Cheers.
In the open final Chris Cheers couldn’t find the waves he needed, having to settle for fourth place ahead of the fatigued Will Kennedy, who surfed more heats then anyone during the competition.
Drew Sheedy was on a mission all day, surfing with youthful enthusiasm and going for some huge moves throughout the event, but had to be content with second place behind Jeremy Coombes who launched a massive invert off a large right hander, scoring 9’s out of a possible 10 and taking the win.
This was the club’s last competition for the year, and we would love to thank all the local businesses that supported the club and all the members that made for such a great year of competition.
Our end of year presentation will be held at the Bellvue Hotel on the December 15 from 6pm.
