Two of the MidCoast’s biggest sportstars were feted recently with a morning tea held in their honour by MidCoast Council Taree council chambers.
Holli Wheeler and Kylie Hilder have enjoyed great success in the last 12 months in the inaugural women’s NRL competition and the morning tea was a chance for their achievements to be acknowledged.
Kylie was unable to attend but Holli was congratulated by senior council staff, mayor David West and general manager Adrian Panuccio.
“Holli is a fantastic representative for our region and a great example of what can be achieved with determination and hard work,” Cr West said.
Holli and Kylie both began their sporting careers in the Manning and Great Lakes.
Holli played with the St George Dragons and Kylie with Sydney Roosters in the NRL’s inaugural women’s competition.
Holli was also named St George’s player of the season.
Holli had a big representative year, taking to the field for NSW in the first women’s State of Origin as well as for Australia in a test against New Zealand in New Zealand.
But NRL isn’t their only chosen sport with Kylie having played State under 20s, Australian mixed and open women’s touch football.
Holli was a regular member of NSW and Australian Country women’s hockey sides before deciding to concentrate on rugby league in 2017.
