To celebrate this year’s International Day of People with a Disability, Resource Recovery Australia and Midcoast Assist will hold an open day to showcase the talents of participants taking part in the Plants with Purpose program.

Meeting weekly at the Green Garden, at Tuncurry Community Recycling Centre, program participants have been developing skills in propagating and caring for plants – many of which have been rescued from green waste.
The open day will be held on December 5 from 11.15am, at the Green Garden, Tuncurry Community Recycling Centre, 48 Midge Orchid Road, Tuncurry.
All visitors are welcome to come along, share a slice of pizza – made by participants at the site’s pizza oven – and listen to the group sing Christmas carols, Mid Coast region RRA manager, Krysten Banks said.
Many of their plants will be displayed and on sale with all proceeds going towards the purchase of gloves, potting mix and fertiliser, she said.
The open day event will finish with a garden tour and propagation demonstration.
“We would like to extend an invite to everyone, especially to those who are interested in learning more about the program and the proven abilities and contributions that this group of people bring to the community.”
