The Forster Tuncurry team took on The Lakes Golf Club in the final, defeating them 5.5 to 2.5.
The team consisted of Peter Garner, Tony Kennings, Gary Cush, Ian Smith, Geoff Greenaway, Mike Jackson, Peter Chatillon, Bob Angus and Paul Connell.
Super seniors golf is for eight player teams of players 65 years and over, playing individual scratch match play.
More in Great Lakes sport:
The classification of 65 years and over does not mean the golf is of a lower standard, and the handicap range of the Forster Tuncurry team this year was between two and five.
Super seniors golf started in 2002 and grew to 60 clubs participating in an area stretching from the Illawarra through Sydney Metropolitan, the lower Blue Mountains and into the Central Coast and Newcastle.
In recent years, the lower North Coast has become involved, including Port Macquarie, Taree, Forster Tuncurry, Hawks Nest and Nelson Bay.
“We have had a very competitive team over the past six years but it is interesting that only three players from our first winning team in 2014 were in the team this year,” Forster Tuncurry captain, Geoff Vial commented.
“Those players are Ian Smith, Tony Kennings and Bob Angus.
“I guess it should be expected given that it is a 65 years and over competition, but it does show the strength of our club with a number of very good older players available for selection.”
Over a long season that started with divisional play in mid August, leading to final play offs in late September, the Forster Tuncurry players covered many kilometres, particularly in the finals series, with matches at Hawks Nest, Maitland, Kooindah Waters and Horizons.
