March, 2019 will see Forster host the Age Group Australian Team Qualification for the World Championship Triathlon to be held later in the year in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The event is expected to attract in excess of 800 athletes from across Australia as they vie for a spot on the Australian age group team in the sprint distance.
The event will include a 750m swim followed by a 20km bike ride, before finishing with a 5km run.
The event is being organised by Elite Energy, led by Taree born CEO, Mark Emerton.
“Ever since I first raced Ironman in 1986 in Forster, the place has always meant something special to me,” Mark said.
“It’s great to see that same spirit living on through the passionate athletes that we expect to attract for this event in an iconic triathlon location.”
“The event will be based out of Forster Keys, with the route carefully chosen to minimise disruptions to the local community, while maintaining a course that showcases the stunning region to the hundreds travelling to the Mid Coast,” Elite Energy marketing manager, Sebastian Gallery said.
The Forster Triathlon Festival will feature four different races ranging from a first-time-triathlete event consisting of a 200m swim, 10km bike and 2km run, all the way up to the ultimate distance a 2km swim, 60km bike ride and 15km run.
In 2019 the Forster Triathlon Festival is excited to partner with MidCoast Council.
Mayor, David West said the event was a fabulous opportunity and the region was very pleased to be hosting it.
“The Mid Coast has a long history of hosting triathlons, we have a beautiful natural environment that suits the sport and our community always supports these events,” he said.
“This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our region to the many competitors and spectators who will follow this event, and we welcome this event to the Mid Coast.”
