From that moment, his life changed.
Now, after travelling the world and starting a family, Dave has returned to where it all began to be the senior pastor of the very church he started his journey in.
Dave had quite the childhood on the beaches, sporting fields and in the schools of the Great Lakes region.
When he finished high school he moved to Brisbane, where he met and married his wife Rebecca.
From there, they moved to the Sunshine Coast, where they were part of the leadership team in a local church.
In 2008 Dave and Rebecca moved to Newcastle, where they launched into senior leadership roles at Goodlife Church, an initiative which grew rapidly to include four community-focused family churches across the Hunter and Manning regions.
This month, Dave and Rebecca will officially launch Goodlife Church Forster-Tuncurry, and they want to invite the community to a special event to celebrate.
“There will be fun, food and festivities for everyone,” they said.
“We would love to invite you and the whole region to party with us.”
Dave has had an impact on many of the communities he has been involved in. He launched the national youth initiative Red Frogs, which is now internationally recognised.
Driven by the knowledge that there are young kids everywhere just like him who needs some inspiration and belief, Dave is excited to be returning to where it all started to be that inspiration for many more.
