Forster Tuncurry rugby union players’ annual end-of-season gift to their coach became a more tangibly beneficial presentation of a $350 cheque to the Great Lakes Breast Cancer Support Group at the club’s presentation night on Saturday.
With coach Ron McCarthy returning from Italy after the competition had begun, captain Matt Nuku suggested the players provide practical support to the breast cancer organisation known as “Breast Friends” for whom Dolphins club member, Ms Heather Kelly, is facilitator.
To their credit the players rallied to the cause and skipper Nuku made the cheque presentation to Ms Kelly during the evening’s ceremony at the Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club.
“It was a wonderful surprise and the most thoughtful of gestures by Matt and the players,” Ms Kelly said. “The money will go to a most worthy cause.”
