Council now accountable for Barrington Coast decision

MidCoast Council, in my view, has acted defiantly and contrary to their “Engaging Our Community Policy” in deciding to proceed with the Barrington Coast tourism campaign in circumstances where it was supported by only a very narrow margin of councillors and with significant community opposition.

The justification put forward is that a comprehensive and lengthy “process” has been followed, that councillors are elected to make decisions and that there is confidence in the “Barrington Coast” concept.

The confidence (in the concept and the tourism results which will be achieved) is now to be put to the test.

The community is entitled to expect that council will be open and transparent in regularly reporting progress and outcomes from the significant expenditure which will be invested in this approach.
