Lake Street Art Gallery renovations 2018

A big renovation of the exhibition space at Forster’s community art gallery has wrapped up, with the venue now ready to be reintroduced to the public.

Located on Lake Street, the gallery provides a professional display space which allows members and local amateur artists to show their work year round.

The gallery is run by the Great Lakes Art Society.

Society president, Ross Williams was excited about the future of the space following the renovations.

He said the space will be great for future exhibitions, particularly the society’s annual open art exhibition.

“This event presents $7000 prize money and is open to any amateur artist in Australia,” Mr Williams said.

“The renovated gallery will allow more works to be exhibited.

“The project is a great example of community cooperation.

“It has relied upon pro-bono contributions by a local designer working with society members who organised and managed the project.

“It would not have been possible without the State Government’s financial assistance through the community building partnerships fund.”

The gallery is at 34 Lake Street, Forster and is open Friday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm, with art classes held most mornings.

The society welcomes new members whether they are beginners or more experienced artists.
