SEMI-finals of the inaugural Group Three girl’s league tag under 16 and 14 competitions will start tonight.
Matches will be played at Old Bar Reserve and Lake Cathie.
Competition matches were played in southern and northern sections, with all games on Friday evenings. Forster-Tuncurry, Old Bar, Taree and Wingham contested the southern pool. Teams will come together for the semi-finals.
Emma Connors, who coaches the Forster under 14s, said the concept proved to be a great success.
“Playing Friday nights worked,'’ Emma said.
“It allowed the girls to play other sports, like hockey or netball, on Saturdays.’’
More importantly, Emma explained, the competitions will provide a pathways to Group Three women’s league tag sides.
“A lot of the girls hadn’t played league tag before this season although a number had played touch,’’ she said.
League tag has been part of Group Three senior football since 2009.
Matches will continue to be played on Fridays through the semi-final series. Grand finals will be at Wingham on Friday August 31.
Meanwhile the semi-finals of the Group Three Junior League competitive grades will be played tomorrow. Wauchope will host the grand finals on Saturday September 1.
