The run of great conditions at Forster Bodyboarding Club’s monthly competitions came to an end on the weekend, with small waves greeting the competitors on Sunday morning.
Luckily, a well timed westerly change hit right at the start of the finals, making for some of the best waves of the day.
The grommets competitors relished in the conditions, throwing their tiny frames through the waves with ease, and at the end of their event it was Nate Fitzgerald’s couple of great reverse spins on the one wave that gave him a win over the other finalists.
In the women’s division, Millie Chalker took the top spot, one-upping Eve Albury, who entertained the judges with her unique riding style.
A five man junior final kept the judges busy, with a total of 40 waves caught in the 20 minutes.
The ever-improving Tieler Gardener had to settle for second place this month, with young Nathan Price getting the bigger waves to take the win.
Experience proved to be the winning ingredient in the drop knee division, with Tom Donnelly patiently waiting for the better waves and surfing them well to win ahead of local rival, Adam Cheers.
Masters was perhaps the most competitive division, with competitors battling through cramps and cold conditions to put on a great show.
In the end, Adam Cheers came up trumps winning on all three judged sheets, with Chad Pisini in second place.
Another five man final in the opens saw many waves surfed in the 20 minutes.
Grant Gardener rolled through some nice sections and managed a nice barrel in the small conditions, but couldn’t peg back Shane Chalker who lucked into two good waves early in the final to take the win.
The next club competition has been bought forward to the August 19, meeting at Tuncurry Beach car park at 7am.
A shout out to the clubs sponsors Jungle Surf, Hogs Forster, Forster surf and Sport, The Bellevue Hotel, D5 bodyboard shop, and QCD bodyboards.
