Away from the coast temperatures have plunged below zero with paddocks and open spaces covered in heavy frost.
Tonight’s temperature is predicted to fall to an even chillier low of just one degree in Forster-Tuncurry.
However, while night-time temperatures will remain in the single figures, day-time temperatures will be more like spring with tops along the coast and further inland in the low 20s.
Rain, along with lower temperatures, was predicted to return later in the week.
