A number of awards were presented, with the highlight being the award of life membership to Chris Hunter.
Chris joined Maroubra Surf Club in 1962, and later joined Cape Hawke in January,1977.
He has been a member at Cape Hawke for the past 41 years.
During those years he has patrolled, been a level two surf coach and official, an assessor and training officer.
He received the SLSA 25 year long service award in 1986 and a 15 year officiating certificate in 2016.
At club level he was awarded the distinguished service award in 2010, and the Ray McDonagh honour award in 2017.
He has held many committee positions over those years and was active in Lower North Coast branch in the nineties, holding the title of branch president in 1996-1898.
In 1989 Cape Hawke was selected to host the NSW Surf Lifesaving Championships, a great honour for a small country club.
Chris worked tirelessly for more than 12 months to ensure a great event was held.
Other award recipients on the night were Kim Hamilton, who received the the Ray McDonagh honour award, and Norm Smith who achieved the distinguished service awards.
Natalie Kelly was the club member of the year, and Ian Reynolds received the presidents award for outstanding service.
In the competition section of the night, for the second year in a row, the cadet champion was Claire Van Kampen, and her brother Brock was the junior champion.
The “Pearls” ladies surfboat crew were awarded the masters champion of the year.
Lifesaving awards went to Greg Puglisi, who received the captains encouragement award, and Jock Sweeney who took home the patrol member of the year.
Alan Bawden’s patrol six was named the patrol of the year.
Ladies and men's encouragementawards and the Cliff Powell award went to Monica Morris, Reece Dodds and Rob Cornhill, and the patrons award for a junior member was awarded to Abbie Mulligan.
National patrol awards for 10 years’ service were presented to Sue Breese, Jeff Horn and Kerry Scott.
The same for 15 years went to Anne Curtis, 20 years to Brendan Guiney, and 25 years to Wayne Barry.
All of these awards are presented in recognition of exceptional service by all these members to surf life saving, Cape Hawke Surf Club, and the community in general.
