The three-day clinic was the Academy’s most successful to date and the number of both returning and new-players is the most pleasing aspect for academy director Jeff Summers.
“Considering the inaugural clinic started with only five players a few years ago, it’s fantastic to see just how popular these holiday clinics have become,” Jeff said.
“A huge amount of research, preparation and organisation as well as ongoing staff training is invested in these programs.”
Players from as far as Queensland, Canberra, Sydney and Newcastle joined children from many of the local clubs to learn and develop football skills, and more importantly have fun and make new friends.
“The program is designed to engage and challenge players of all levels, including beginners, and to also help develop their love of the game, general fitness and confidence,” Jeff continued.
“The program consists of various skill development activities and small sided games, culminating in a match on the inflatable soccer field, which was kindly lent by Tom and Boaz from Active OOSH Forster.
“This was a massive hit with the players who loved this experience.
“One of the most successful aspects of these clinics is the high player to coach ratio, ensuring that each of the groups are small in numbers.”
Jeff and 10 of his academy coaches were working with groups throughout the clinic, a vital factor in the program’s success as it allows the players to receive more individual attention from their coaches.
“The academy has a good relationship with all clubs in the community, including Hallidays Point Barracuda’s, who sponsored 14 of their players to attend the clinic. This is a huge testament to the value of these holiday clinics,” Jeff added.
Jeff, also involved with the Samuel Brett Nelson Kickstart Charity football program, gave out several pairs of boots and shin-pads to beginning players which had been donated.
