Acknowledging our indigenous women

It was a day of celebration and acknowledgement, a day of pride and hope for the hundreds of First Nations people from throughout the Great Lakes.

This year’s NAIDOC week celebrations applaud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who have and continue to play an important role in the community.

Under the theme, Because of Her, We Can, this year’s  NAIDOC Week 2018 acknowledges the quiet achievers; everyday Worimi women who have made an impact of their community, sisters and aunties who have fought for equality, education, health, culture and much more.

A community celebration was held in Forster at the Tobwabba Aboriginal Medical Services, Cabaritta Flats, earlier today, July 11 under warm, sunny winter conditions.

Members of the Gathany Dancers, from both Worimi and Biripi country, displayed their dancing talents, while information tents, face painting, jumping castle and a host of activities entertained the large crowd.
