MidCoast Council has issued an SOS to anyone who may have witnessed two separate acts of vandalism late last week.
On Thursday evening, June 21, or early Friday morning, June 22 a vehicle drove onto the Collendina Reserve and a reserve at One Mile Beach causing hundreds of dollars worth of damage.
MidCoast Council recreation service co-ordinator, Kerrie Simmons explained a vehicle drove onto the wet, soft reserve and caused a fair amount of damage to the turf.
“The reserve is very popular and council will need to undertake repairs to ensure the area is safe for public use,” she said.
“The wheel indents are a trip hazard.
“The vehicle has also caused similar damage to Collendina Reserve.”
This practice has been occurring more frequently with Collendina Reserve hit previously, along with the reserve at the Lakes Estate, she said.
Ms Simmons said staff took a lot of pride in their work, and they were disappointed these acts of vandalism were becoming a regular occurrence. The cost to repair the damage would be about $1000.
“The area surrounding the parks is residential and I am hopeful that the incident was witnessed by a resident.”
Ms Simons has urged any witnesses to the events to get in touch with the police, who have been informed of the occurrences.
