The under 14s squad showed good skill and competitiveness throughout the round robin competition, but could not claim victory over the strong St Clare’s team, who were eventual winners on the day.
The under 16s team, with the support of several under 15s to assist the squad, ran into the St Clare’s squad in game one.
“This St Clare’s side was also favoured to win the day, but with some excellent skill and speed to open the scoring account, they led the game at the half,” relieving head teacher Tuncurry campus, Tom Freeman said.
“St Clare’s were not done with and scored some impressive tries, but a late try to Great Lakes and a sideline conversion by Eli Clarke helped claim the win.
“This effort was assisted by aggressive and relentless defence from the forward pack, particularly Harry Grant with some crunching tackles.”
The Great Lakes under 16s side ended the day undefeated, with victories over Taree High School and Wingham High School.
The team are now Manning Zone champions and will compete at stage two later in the term, a fantastic effort by the boys.
