Chloe Saunders, Ellie Johnston and Naomi George gained selection after stand out performances with the Mid North Coast Tomahawks side that competed in the SW Country Championships on May 12.
The trio was part of a strong 22-woman squad to the championships.
Most of the women trained for seven months in the lead up to this competition. At the end of the day they finished a highly creditable.
Along with the Thunder trio, a further five members of the Tomahawks gained selection in the merit squad.
Coomba Park teenager, Ellie is new to the sport this year ,coming from a representative netball background.
Ellie travels two hours each way just to get to training so this shows a massive level of dedication to the sport.
She has a massive rugby career ahead of her being selected at only 17.
Chloe played in the team last year and is considered a talented young player, who’s skills just keep improving every game.
She has grown in confidence in her abilities and its really showing when she plays.
Naomi was in doubt to play at the Country Championships this year but came back to the MNC team and and made an impact off the bench scoring a try in one of her first touches.
“I’m still in shocked over my selection, I really didn’t think I had a chance with the level of footy that was played on that weekend,” she said.
These three girls make up part of our core playing group at the Thunder.
Paddy Bowen – Wauchope Thunder president and women’s coach said he was ecstatic with the selection of the trio.
“I would be happy to have one player make it so to have three players selection in the merit squad is fantastic,” he said.
“Our goal is to provide as many opportunities to our players as possible.
“We make sure offer financial/logistic support to our players as much as we can to play at events like Country Champs etc"
Other members selected in the squad from the MNC team were Jean Littlewood, Kathleen Ostler, Peta Salter, Tammy Clay and Tia Tyler.
“We wish the ladies all the best when they compete in the Player Discovery Tournament later in the year,” Bowen added.
