Twos off to State title: Despite Old Bar’s stubborn resistance on Saturday, Forster 2s managed a 10-0 win extending their unbeaten run and cementing their no one position no matter the result against Taree west next week. The squad members, Dave Trudgett, Greg Taylor, Peter Schroeder, Jason Morse, John Morton, Rod McMillan, Mick Pole, Keeden McGuire, Les Wilmott, Rob Northam, Barry Duggan, Phil Scott-Young and Barry Dixon will contest State finals at Mt Lewis mid-August. Well done Guys. Ignoring their last position on the ladder, the 4s showed their real potential ending Harringtons chances with a 9-1 win. Unfortunately Bob Kirby was forced out due to illness, but Roger Pike stepped up to the plate and with Paul Slater, Ian Brayshaw and Tony Coutts scored a fine 23-15 win. With this years chances gone, our other teams failed to fire. 3s lost 9-1 to Tuncurry 5s lost 91/2 – ½ to Taree Railway 6s lost 9-1 to Pacific Palms 7Bs lost 10-1 to Taree Leagues To stay in the race for another flag, our 7As need to beat Harrington next week. Go for it guys major singles. In a highly anticipated clash, Mick Pole confirmed his favouritism with a resounding 31-17 win over Barry Dixon in the first semifinal on Sunday. As expected. Barry peppered the jack early only to see Mick consistently destroy the end then respond with accurate draw shots of his own, treating the spectators to some grate bowls. In the other semifinal, Doug Kessell played a former club champion Geoff Robinson and after 36 hard fought ends Doug finally won 31-25. The final will be played next Sunday at 1pm. Junior bowls academy Our proactive coaches ran a very successful Bring a Friend day on Sunday. Emma and Hannah Morse assisted the coaches with top young bowlers Tom and Eva Williams. Twelve new bowlers showed the potential we have in the area. Great initiative by and thanks to John and Karen for tasty barbecue. This Wednesday, May 30 Gary Willis National Training Coach will be coming along to share some expertise in the game. Thank you to Craig Mason East Coast Photography for assisting with photos.

Bridge
Great Lakes Bridge Club
The highlight of our week was the Australia Wide Novice Pairs (AWNP). Our club runs the event in association with the above organisation for all members who hold less than 50 masterpoints at March 31 Our club result below reflects all players for the day but it is then reworked by AWNP using a handicap system based on the masterpoints ranking of each pair. It is very exciting to see that within our club, after adjusted scores, someone who attended our learn to play bridge class to refresh their skills has taken first place, along with their partner. I will with hold the names until it has been announced at the club. GNOT day three was played on Wednesday. The top teams are keeping their pace within site of the finishing line. It is lovely to see the competitive, but friendly rivalry during the afternoon’s play.
