Gloucester was a sweet smelling town as the waft of barbecue meat filled the air.
Barbecue pits started rolling into town on Friday (May 25) ahead of the Just Smokin @ The Roundabout Inn competition which ran on Saturday (May 26) and Sunday (May 27).
The 12 teams set up their cooking stations out back of the Roundabout Inn on Church Street in Gloucester and settled in for a weekend of cooking.
Event organiser, Dion Allan said the turn out over the weekend was really good.
“We sold 171 tickets,” he said. “Plus we had the teams and judges.”
Dion said the number of attendees was up about 50 from last year’s event.
This boutique Australasian Barbecue Alliance (ABA) sanctioned event prides itself on being unique, allowing ticket holders to not only taste the goods being cooked but also judge which they like the best.
Not only was Dion involved in getting the event organised, he also cooked as part of the Gloucester team, Comeatosed BBQ alongside Matt Danton and Pete Ashby.
“We finished up with best result of 4th in lamb and 7th overall,” Dion said.
