What a busy month we’ve had. We’d only just finished the school holiday activities before we were lining up our pop-up library program to participate in National Family week.

As soon as we’d packed up the pop-up library we were straight into Library and Information Week. To celebrate the week, all of our branches participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime program, reading Hickory Dickory Dash all at the same time at 11am on Wednesday, May 23.
We also held our annual Great Books Festival in Library and Information Week. Our library staff took nationally recognised illustrator, Sarah Davis, and a similarly high profile author, James Roy, around to local schools across the region.
This event ran for four days and was a complete sell-out, with more than 1000 children participating and getting to meet their writing and illustrating idols.
To add to this hive of activity, Forster library also hosted Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea on Thursday, May 24.
It’s important to appreciate how much the library does to support our local community, across all age groups, and the vital role we play in enriching the lives of so many.
It doesn’t end there either. By the time you read this we’ll be holding special storytime sessions to celebrate the children’s classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
The Manning Entertainment Centre brings us The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show in two sessions on Wednesday, June 27 and MidCoast Libraries and the Manning Regional Art Gallery will celebrate at libraries across the region in the lead up to the shows.
Until Monday, June 18 our preschool storytime sessions will be devoted to the Very Hungry Caterpillar. This will include a caterpillar craft activity presented by the Manning Regional Art Gallery and yummy morning tea.
The Manning Entertainment Centre will also be giving away a free family pass to the Very Hungry Caterpillar Show, and anyone that attends one of our special preschool storytime sessions will go in the draw.
To find our more about these sessions visit our website www.midcoastlibraries.com.au.
Everyone’s welcome to come along, it’s free to attend and there’s no need to book.
While you’re on the website, check out the Events tab for the declutter workshops, author talks and the other regular programs we’re offering.
I’d like to end on a special thank you note. Just recently, two anonymous donors gave the library $1500 towards our collection. This is a wonderful gesture and very much appreciated. You may not be aware, but donations to the library are tax deductible.
From the other side of the spectrum and indeed the other side of the world – we recently received a junior fiction book donation The adventures of Nick and Billy from one of our US instagram followers, author Michael Hoard.
See you in the library.
