Zone 11 began the campaign with an 8.5-1.5 (71/45) win against Zone 8.

With one rink lost and one rink drawn, we won the master board courtesy of a big 35-5 win by the rink skipped by Kevin Robinson.

Round two saw us up against our neighbours from Zone 14.

On a slightly slower green we recorded wins on all three rinks and came away with a 10-0 win to put us in front in the section.

Our round three opponents were Zone 7, and we went into this game needing to win on just one rink to secure a win in the section.

Having been in this situation before, and failed, we were not taking this game lightly.

Halfway through this was justified, as we were down on two rinks, and the third rink was close.

In the run home two of our rinks lifted to record comfortable wins and secure the section and advance us to the last four.

In the semi-final we came up against the strong Zone 15 side.

This proved to be a very tough contest.

Although two of our rinks led at different stages the third rink was having a hard time of it, and this eventually proved to be fatal.

While trying to cover this third rink, the other two rinks also succumbed in closely fought games, and we lost all three rinks.

This was a fine showing from our guys, who battled hard throughout, and are to be congratulated on reaching the semi-final in this highly contested event.

In grade 1, Tuncurry defeated Kew at Tuncurry 9-1 with the one rink loss coming down to a measure on the last end.

Tuncurry became equal leaders after Westport defeated Park Beach.

Westport are in third but have a game in hand.

In grade 2, Forster’s 9-1 defeat of Wingham had them 11.5 points clear on top from West who defeated Tuncurry 9.5-.5.

Leagues had an away win against Old Bar 8-2.

West need Old Bar to do them a favour against Forster on Saturday to make their clash against Forster in the last round a match for the title.

In grade 3, Harrington was too good for Leagues and had a 10-0 win to extend their lead over Gloucester to three points, despite them defeating Tuncurry 9-1.

Palms defeated Forster 9-1.

The clash between Gloucester and Harrington at Gloucester will have a huge bearing on this grade.

In grade 4, Blackhead beat Forster and Manning Pt. beat Harrington, both were both 10-0 results.

Railway defeated Tuncurry 8-2.

Blackhead now lead, but with only 5.5 points between first and third, this grade is still up for grabs.

In grade 5, Wingham defeated Railway 10-0, Sporties were too good for West 9-1 and second placed Lansdowne was beaten 2-8 by Forster.

Sporties, who were leading by a single point, found themselves 8 points clear of Lansdowne.

The match between these two on Saturday is a must win for Lansdowne, or the title goes to Sporties.

In grade 6/1, leaders, Sporties (1) defeated Old Bar 9-1 and Leagues had an 8.5-1.5 win over Forster.

Palms had the bye and now trail Sporties by 11.5 points.

Palms need a win, and hope another result goes their way to give their round 10 clash with Sporties some meaning.

In grade 6/2, Buladelah won 9-1 over Gloucester, and Harrington 9-1 over Sporties (2).

Tuncurry had the bye. Congratulations to Buladelah, who, with two rounds to go and a 21 point led, are unable to be beaten in this section.

In grade 7/1, Forster (1) defeated Lansdowne 10-0 and Harrington defeated Blackhead 9-1.

Gloucester had the bye.

Leaders, Forster have the bye this Saturday and it is vital for Harrington that they defeat Lansdowne.

This would mean their last round clash with Forster would be for the section win.

In grade 7/2, leaders Tuncurry crashed to a 9-1 defeat at the hands of West.

Forster (2) defeated Sporties 9-1 and Leagues had the bye.

Tuncurry have the bye on Saturday, and second placed West have the chance to close the gap, and make the last round extremely interesting.

At this time of the year there are a lot of results that have a huge bearing on who ends up on the winning side and who is a loser.

For me, the clash of the round is in grade three, between leaders Harrington, and second placed Gloucester.

This is closely followed in grade 5 with the game between Sporties and Lansdowne.
