The Great Lakes premier vocal ensemble, CoV has been supporting local worthy causes for more than two decades.
This year the ensemble will recognise the historic Tuncurry Memorial Hall, which was built as a community project, in memory of those who served and fell in the first World War.
It was officially opened in September 1921.
During the past 97 years the hall has had various repair and improvement works undertaken, but now sadly is in need of funds to upgrade its aging facilities.
Enter Company of Voices which is stepping up to assist.
“We love singing in the hall,” CoV director Leigh Vaughan said.
“It has a beautiful acoustic and a wonderful ambience.”
Company of Voices is a group of 18 friends who enjoy singing together and sharing the music to raise funds for local worthy causes.
Members share a love of choral music and take delight in conveying their enjoyment to their audiences.
Members come from all walks of life, span a wide age range and profess to “specialise in diversity”.
The company sings in many different styles and several languages, and explores a range of choral music from early Renaissance to current popular songs and jazz classics.
For this concert, they will be joined by their singing friends from Port Macquarie, the Hastings Choristers.
Directed by Robyn Ryan OAM in a varied program which they have aptly titled ALL TOGETHER NOW.
Hastings Choristers began as a community choir in 1990 to promote the art and practice of choral singing in the Hastings, the troupe has evolved into a nationally-respected organisation with a talented and dedicated group of singers who have a broad experience of choral styles and music repertoire.
While entertaining audiences is the ultimate aim, the choristers has made and continues to make a huge contribution to the cultural wealth, development and appreciation of the entire region.
Through ‘sharing the joy of song’ and bringing great pleasure to performers and audiences alike, the group is materially boosting a healthy community whether physically, psychologically or spiritually.
“We are thrilled to be able to get together with the Company of Voices,” Robyn Ryan said.
“CoV has joined us many times in Port Macquarie and now we are finally able to come to historic Tuncurry and share some wonderful music here as well.”
The program will be shared between both groups who will gather in a finale that is sure to please all tastes.
CoV is inviting everyone to come and share the music in the lovely old hall while supporting this very worthwhile local cause, on Sunday, May 27 at the Tuncurry Memorial Hall from 2pm.
