In the lead-up to the May 31 LPGA event, the 33-year-old came second in the US Open qualifier in Florida ahead of 79 women from around the globe.
In the 36-hole, one day event, Sarah was four under following the morning round, and three under in the afternoon behind 37-year-old American, Kris Tamilus.
“It’s pretty awesome, and I am very excited,” she told the Great Lakes Advocate.
“I have been playing professionally for 12 years and this is my best qualifier.
“This has given me the world of confidence.”
The oldest of the five major championships. just 150 women qualify for the $5M, three day event at Shoal Creek, Alabama.
More than 1000 women competed in one of 25 36-hole qualifying tournaments held at sites across the United States and at international sites in China, England, Japan, and South Korea.
“It’s like no other major; it is the biggest and hardest to get into.”
While Sarah has qualified for the US Open twice before since turning professional in 2005 – and she made the cut once – she is feeling much more assured in the lead-up to this year’s event.
In April Sarah was pipped in a thrilling play-off for the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco on April 22.
However, Sarah is upbeat about her second place in a Ladies European Tour (LET) event.
Still chasing her maiden win on the LET, the Morocco placing was her third runner-up finish.
“I knew this year I was playing well.
“Golf is about results and I have put those on the board this year.”
Her second LET place, a fifth at Coffs Harbour earlier this month combined with the US Open qualification has been a big confidence booster for Sarah.
“I am feeling pretty good at the moment.”
Sarah travels from Tuncurry this week to spend some time with Sydney-based coach, John Serhan before jetting off to the States.
