President, Ted Bickford has been involved with the group for 20 years, and is a passionate advocate for the work the organisation does.
“We are quite a small group, only 10-12 members, with people moving through reasonably quickly,” Ted explained.
“Despite our small numbers, we do make a difference, in the last financial year we raised $45,000 for the organisation through various activities.
“Our biggest event last year was a ball, which raised about $12,000 alone, but we also had a truck show, lots of Bunnings barbecues, the king of the crater skate competition, trivia nights and bowls days.”
Another fundraiser Ted puts on several times a year is a day trip to the Wespac heli-pad, where participants can see how the organisation runs and talk to the pilot and paramedics.
“That’s usually a bus of about 48, we have no trouble filling spots for that one,” Ted laughed.
“The organisation does so much good work, it’s important for the community to know about it. Not many people know that in 2017 the helicopter made 279 trips to the Mid Coast region.”
With a host of new events coming up in 2018, including a vintage chev display, the Forster group don’t look to be slowing down, but new members are always welcome.
“I’m just really thrilled with the success of our small group,” Ted added.
“We always need more help, and anyone interested in getting involved should call me on 0408440309.”
The other committee positions have been filled by treasurer, Mal Webber, secretary, Tony Waterson and vice president, Syd Brown.
