The small community group sews and sells Boomerang Bags, and thanks to the support of the Pacific Palms markets has now made a donation of $500 to Bungwahl Public School.
“It’s because of the support of the market organisers that we’ve ended up with all this extra money to donate to community causes,” group member, Nicola Carruthers said.
“They don’t charge us for having a stall, and they have taken us in under their insurance, to help us make a bigger difference.
“That means money we make from those sales we can put to good use, we wouldn’t be able to do it without them.”
The group decided to use the money to help out the next generation of young minds and environmentally aware children, before discovering the small school on the Great Lakes Food Trail.
“It was a perfect opportunity,” Nicola explained.
“Hopefully this can be an ongoing thing, and we can raise more money to donate in the future. Pacific Palms is a very environmentally aware area, the markets are plastic free, so helping the community is an easy choice for this money we have raised.”
The Pacific Palms Boomerang Bag group was established last year, when a number of volunteers broke away from the Mid Coast group after discovering they all lived in the Pacific Palms region.
“A number of the volunteers sew bags at their homes, and we often have workshops where we get together and sew, it’s a great group, we get along really well and we enjoy what we are doing,” Nicola added.
“We like to support a number of small causes around the area, donating bags for raffles and things like that, there’s just 10 of us in the group, but with the support of the Pacific Palms markets we are able to make a real difference.”
