More than 1000 motorcyclists will descend on Gloucester Showground on Saturday May 5 for the 10th Gloucester Motorcycle Expo.
This popular annual event attracts a loyal following of motorcycle enthusiasts who travel many miles each year to soak up the beauty of a trip to Gloucester.
“It’s a great way to escape for a few hours or a week” said expo organiser and Gloucester Rotary president Sam de Witte.
Half a dozen Gloucester Rotary members are keen motorcycle enthusiasts who know only too well the joy of riding their bikes in beautiful country.
Ten years ago the club decided to organise an event locally to cater for the growing number of two-wheeled tourists seeking a place to ride to and maybe even camp.
“We have the perfect country here, Gloucester is very popular with motorcyclists,” said Sam.
And while the enthusiasts will be filling the showground on May 5 – with many arriving the day before to camp – everyday folk are also warmly welcomed.
The expo has become Gloucester Rotary’s biggest fundraiser of the year and they put a lot of emphasis on ensuring their visitors enjoy their stay.

Families can enjoy a day in the sunshine checking out an expected 500-600 bikes and dealer displays from most of the major brands including BMW, Harley Davidson, Bugatti, Triumph and Honda.
A popular show and shine organised by the Ulyssis Club will see the best of the best on display with 10 categories offering prizes and trophies.
If you have a bike and want to try your luck, Sam says there’s still time to book it in for a shot at a trophy.
Also for bike owners there is a well stocked swap meet catering to the needs of the home restorer.
You’ll never know what you’ll find among the old parts.
Motorcycle races will be held throughout Saturday and well into the night.
Hungry expo visitors will be well catered for with food and drink all day and the Rotary barbecue will also feed overnight campers bacon and egg rolls on Sunday morning.
A two-course dinner will be served on Saturday evening.
And calling all coffee drinkers, a barista will be on site all day Saturday and Sunday morning.
“Oh they are popular,” admits Sam.
He expects large queues again this year for the coffee.
Music by popular local band The Bowden Brothers will round out the entertainment.
