The game was played out for the main part in torrential rain on Tuncurry’s Harry Elliott Oval.
Reeling from injuries and suspension, the Hawks started well, however the strong Port side handled the conditions much better, and took stranglehold on proceedings, leading 22-0 at oranges.
The second half saw an improvement in handling, however the Breakers were able to extend their lead before tries to Hawks backs Reggie Bolt and Beau Lowry brought a modicum of respectability to the final scoreline.
Next Sunday the Hawks make the journey up the M1 to Kempsey where they will face the Macleay Valley Mustangs.
Coach, Phil Adamson will welcome back utility Chris Simon from a one week suspension, while front rower Chris Coulton will be an outside chance of returning from a badly broken nose suffered during the round one clash at Wingham.
The reserve grade side received somewhat of a reality check, going down 34-10 after last weeks heroics.
The Forster Tuncurry under 18s provided the highlight of the day, claiming a 22-18 win over their Port City rivals in what was a high quality affair.
A trademark Sam Whitbread try four minutes from time sealed the win for his talented side.
Tries were also scored by Aaron Hill and Jake Curnow while centre Winston McBride crossed for a double. Max Buderus had a rare off day with the boot but managed one goal.
The Hawks league tag side went down 26 points to 16 against an experienced Port outfit.
