Through the twists and turns that life’s journey throws, Cass discovered Forster 10 years ago, when the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat was opened.
“We learned about the retreat through our many stays at Ronald McDonald House Randwick, with our youngest child who is an oncology patient,” Cass explained.
“We came back every year, sometimes twice! We loved the contrast of the lifestyle and weather, with our home town of Griffith, NSW, which is a wee 870km away.”
Cass was medically retired from her teaching career when she contracted whooping cough and sustained a paralysed vocal cord, and decided it was time for a change of pace.
“I found it very difficult to live in the weather extremes of Griffith without having work as a distraction,” she said.
“With no discussion required, my husband agreed to also retire from his role as assistant principal and move.”
Cass and husband, Wayne headed to Forster, with their youngest son and Cass’s parents in tow. With her only sister living in Port Macquarie with her family, Cass thought it was only natural for her parents to head north too.
Having recently begun a major renovation to squeeze three generations of family into the her new home, Cass is confident this is where she wants to be.
“This is our forever home,” she said.
“We are a short stroll to the beach where Wayne will loll in the water after doing a beach run, and we are a quick ride to the rockpool, where we setup, almost daily, on the grass with a cuppa or a sneaky drink, to watch the dolphins, birds and people.
“I think this is our favourite spot on Earth.”
And, having travelled through 24 different countries, Cass knows a thing of two about the beautiful places of the world.
“Forster Tuncurry is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places. We are so lucky to live in this stunning place and have the quality of life that we do,” she said.
Making the most of the relaxed pace of the Great Lakes, Cass and her family enjoy getting involved in community causes, and keeping fit and healthy.
“Yoga has introduced us to some wonderful people and aided us in making some gorgeous friends,” she said.
“We also spend time each week helping out Rhiannon at the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat. It is such a wonderful place and has given our family so much over the past decade, that we love to be able to give back.”
